Allan Maher

What's your background?

I have 20 years experience of project and programme management; initially in blue-chip organisations and for the last 7 years in consultancy. My work has spanned a variety of sectors, predominantly oil and gas, logistics and financial services.

What attracted you to Project One?

Three things really attracted me; the opportunity to work on challenging projects with industry leading organisations, the 'family feel' of the organisation where everyone knows your name, and the prospect of working with highly experienced colleagues.

What's your experience of working in Project One?

This is the only consultancy that I know offering truly challenging and rewarding opportunities, that allows me to work with highly motivated and experienced professionals, and most importantly, maintains a real sense of team spirit.

What has been your most memorable assignment in Project One?

I think it would be a Desktop Transformation Programme I worked on for a financial services business. Reporting to the Director of Change Delivery, this was part of a complete portfolio of programmes and projects I was managing. The transformation involved replacing PCs for over 3000 people and rationalising and standardising their applications.

What did your client value?

  • clarity - creating a clear view about where the transformation was at and what needed to be done for the programme to deliver
  • a focus on organisation and planning to provide a clear view about what could be delivered    and when
  • delivery of tangible success

What did it mean to you?

  • it was hugely satisfying to make a difference to a programme that was redirected, replanned and delivered successfully
  • I got real enjoyment from working with a team that became highly motivated, delivery focused and started to have fun
  • the assignment widened my experience in change management
