Meet the team ... Dave Jepson

What's your background? 

Following nine years working for BT, in both operational and HR roles, I spent eleven years working for "big four" consultancies. My specialisms included change leadership and organisation design on major corporate transformations and ERP implementations, and organisational performance improvement.

What attracted you to Project One?

An ex-colleague had already joined, and was constantly singing the praise of both challenging work and genuine work-life balance. Right through the interview process I was impressed by the emphasis Project One placed on both professional delivery and a very flexible working model.

How have you found life in Project One?

Project One offers a blend of some of the best of consultancy but without many of the downsides associated with “big four”. Consultants have much more freedom to deliver, yet can still leverage the know-how of the whole team; and with the focus 100% on the client I can give much more attention to hands-on delivery, whilst still being able to return to my own bed every night.

More recently, I've moved into the role of Delivery Director where I am working with clients to understand their challenges, provide advice and ensure that, as a Project One delivery team, we maximise our value in support of their business goals.

 

My most memorable assignment so far

 

My first assignment was Programme Manager for a very large scale ERP programme in a leading retailer. I had responsibility for the day-to-day management of the programme, supporting the client Programme Director in leading and managing delivery.

 

What did your client value?

 

  • "Fantastic support"; expertise across programme and change management to help drive continuous improvement in both prime supplier and client resource delivery capability
  • No-nonsense ability to diagnose and resolve issues; a "detached and unemotional view of a situation", and a perspective that made a real difference when things got tough
  • Gravitas and confidence to work with and support the client's senior team

 

What did the assignment mean to you?

 

  • This was my first assignment for Project One; it was great and challenging to be thrown in at the deep end in a senior role, and to be positively supported by a small team of other experienced Project One hands
  • A real opportunity to make a difference and help grow Project One's reputation
  • A chance to gain more experience around major systems and the retail sector

And what do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Apart from spending time with my family, I enjoy running, skiing, golf, gardening and cooking.
