Meet the team ... Tom Pirrie
What's your background?
After training as a software engineer, I progressed in two blue chip global companies through a variety of IT roles before eventually leading programmes and IT teams across multiple industry verticals, locations and timezones.
What attracted you to Project One?
I was initially attracted by the outstanding results Project One achieved in the Sunday Times Best Companies competition. I was looking for a smaller company who really care for you as an individual and Project One's appoach seemed to fit very well
How have you found life in Project One?
This has been my first experience of consulting so I have needed to learn new skills. What has been great is the way that the consultants, the directors and the Shared Services Team have all gone out of their way to make the transition easy and enjoyable.
The scale of the organisation and the flat management structure have meant that the support has always been tailored to my needs and I have never felt forced into a company 'one size fits all' model.
The biggest 'wow factor' has been the strength of the people. I can honestly say that I have worked with some exceptional people in Project One and consider that I have grown significantly in my time here.
My most memorable assignment so far
It has to be my current one. I'm working as part of the Programme Management team to shape a major business transformation programme (~£40m) in the financial services sector. The programme will help develop a new product set for our client as well as fix a challenging operational and systems environment.
What did your client value?
- Bringing clarity to the programme
- Setting realistic expectations and surfacing the big issues early
- Providing quality advice and leadership, bringing our experience and know-how rapidly to bear on the programme to produce better outcomes
What did the assignment mean to you?
- A fantastic opportunity to develop more depth in business change
- Working with some very talented people from whom I've picked up numerous valuable tips and techniques which I will be sure to steal – sorry reuse – in future assignments
And what do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Being married with four children, I don't have time for many interests outside of work ... but love football (sadly watching more than playing nowadays). I'm also a bit of a film buff and have been known to dabble in online computer games.
